Sonship

"And David said, 'Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan's sake?'...and Ziba said unto the king, 'Jonathan hath yet a son, which is lame on his feet.'...Then King David sent, and fetched him...As for Mephibosheth, he shall eat at my table as one of the king's sons." (II Sam. 9:1-11) Precious is the king's will for extending kindness to this lame one and bringing him into his own house as one of his own. We thank God for a heart to love John-Nathan and for the ability to show him this kindness of bringing him into our own house. We remember that God has loved first. "Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God" (I John 3:1) Paul expressed this loving will of the Father for spiritual sons best in Ephesians 1:3-6 "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ, according as He hath chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the Beloved." When I read this about King David saying go and fetch him--I thought of the first thing your Dad said when we were told of John-Nathan. He said "Let's go get him" and we are ready for him to eat at our table, given the love and care of a loving family and the Family of God. We love and pray for your saftey as you "go get him".
